HOW TO PREPARE?

Owner or responsible person is present

Dogs have been out to the toilet in preparation

Horses have been brought in and brushed 

Appropriate restraint is available for use during dynamic assessment

History

To form an accurate background knowledge, the animals history will be recorded and updated throughout each session.

This may include but is not limited to:

  • All diagnosis

  • Past surgeries,

  • Past Injuries, 

  • Behaviours,

This allows personalised plans and treatments to be created

Static Assessment 

The animal will be observed from each angle in a square position, they will be assessed for

  • Conformation

  • Deviation or rotations including limb and spinal

  • Paw/ Hoof placement 

  • Weight bearing

  • Asymmetries

  • Core engagement and topline

Dynamic assessment

Dynamic Assessment 

A full dynamic assessment will be completed including walking, trotting and in circles. Horses may also be assessed backing up, on the lunge or under saddle if appropriate.

Assessment includes but is not limited to:

  • ​Paw or hoof placement,

  • Asymmetries,

  • Joint range of motion,

  • Comfort and fluidity of movement

Palpation, Range of motion and Spinal Assessment

Full assessment of each muscle group and joint for tenderness, temperature and functionality. If neurological assessment is appropriate, this will be carried out during this portion. Please advise if horses misbehave when picking up feet. 

This section will shape the areas of treatment focus when collated with observational assessment.

Treatment

Bespoke treatment plan is created for each individual dependent on assessment results. Treatment may include:

  • Massage

  • Joint mobilisation/ stretching

  • Trigger point therapy

  • Photobiomodulation (Laser)

  • Pulsed electromagnetic therapy (PEMT)

  • Transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TENS)

  • Thermotherapy 

  • Cryotherapy

Feedback and Veterinary Update

Feedback on findings of assessment, including aims and goals. 

​

Creation of detailed and bespoke exercise plan including top tips.

​

A detailed summary of findings will be sent to you, with a copy sent to your vet.
